Barnacles Restaurant

869 S Atlantic Ave Ormond Beach, FL 32176
(386) 673-1070

At first glance there appears to be little parking at Barnacles, but it is right next to a beach access with plenty of parking. The atmosphere is nice, it is decorated with lots of fish on the walls and they have a large tank with salt water fish which adds to the authenticity. They have mellow music playing softly in the background.

We had our sodas in a few minutes and the dinner arrived in about 15. I had the large scallops broiled, garlic mashed potatoes and the salad bar. My scallops were $16 dollars and a good deal by themselves but an all-you-can-eat salad bar with over 25 items on it - as a free add-on to any entree - makes this a bargain hunters dream.

I think the salad bar is something you could easily overlook in the menu because oif the small print, yet should not. The salad bar included such things as diced ham, finely shredded cheese, baby corn, broccoli, egg, and six excellent dressing that appear to be made right there. I had blue cheese dressing - my favorite - and theirs was excellent.

My partner had the appetizer sampler. The crab-stuffed mushrooms with a wine sauce, with a sprinkle of cheese on top. The alligator tail bites, a new taste for her, were breaded and fried, with a tangy and sweet sauce on the side. Some pieces were too chewy to eat, and others had tender, flaky meat inside. The (steamed, peeled, and chilled) shrimp cocktail was standard fare, no surprises there. The fried cheese wedges with marinara sauce were also good. The best part - for both of us - was the fried calamari - perfetto! delicioso!!

The restrooms were clean and well stocked although the ladies room had a slightly sticky floor. This seems to be a common occurrence in our travels.
